Shore Excursion from Sorrento

You can discover our proposals and choose from the routes listed below.

Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius Private tour with English speaking.

We can arrange a private guided tour of the sites.

Pompeii

Pompeii Pompeii

With all three of these most fascinating places in close proximity to each other, it is possible with the aid of a private driver to see them all in a one day tour. It is especially interesting to visit the ruins in Pompeii and Herculaneum in the same day as they are both very different to another. Pompeii of course was the great Roman city which was covered in ash when Mt Vesuvius erupted in 79AD. Much of the buildings or focal points of the town are still visible and with the help of a guide on a private tour, it is easy to imagine Pompeii as it was once upon a time.

Herculaneum

Herculaneum tour Herculaneum private tour

Having explored the history behind the Amphitheater, Forum and local brothel; it's on to the town of Herculaean which was buried beneath the mud and lava as opposed to ash, as with Pompeii. Herculanean was excavated in the 18th Century to uncover an entire town full preserved buried beneath the ground. There are timbers still in place, doorways which look untouched and furniture in the buildings. Once again, a private guide will be able to illuminate the story so as to bring the scenes to life in front of your eyes.

Mount Vesuvius

Lastly and what better way to finish off a tour to Herculanean and Pompeii, than by trekking up to the top of the volcano which caused all the destruction. It is a moderate walk after driving most of the way up but for everyone who make the trek, the panoramic views at the top are worth every ounce of effort.

Italiano Limousine English Speaking Driver will meet you at your Cruise Dock to start a wonderful personalized experience If this is your first time on the Amalfi Coast get ready because Positano is probably the most pictoresque town of the globe.

positano

Positano is the coast’s most picturesque and photogenic town, with vertinigous houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta colours. No less colourful are its steep streets and steps lined with wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and fashionable boutiques.

Look beyond the facades and the fashion, however, and you will find reassuring signs of everyday reality: crumbling stucco, streaked paintwork and even, on occasion, a faint whiff of drains. There’s still a southern-Italian holiday feel about the place, with sunbathers eating pizza on the beach, kids pestering parents for gelati and chic women from Milan checking out the boutiques. The fashionista history runs deep – moda Positano was born here in the '60s and the town was the first in Italy to import bikinis from France.

John Steinbeck visited in 1953 and wrote in an article for Harper’s Bazaar: ‘Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone'.There certainly is something special about the place and this is reflected, predictably, in the prices, which tend to be higher here than elsewhere on the coast.

Positano - Amalfi - Ravello

Italiano Limousine English Speaking Driver will meet you at your Cruise Terminal to start a wonderful personalized experience. If you ‘ve never visited the Amalfi Coast this itinerary is been designed to underline the most scenic corners an show you one of the most beautiul part of Italy.

The Amalfi Coast

Your first stop will be Positano Positano is the coast’s most picturesque and photogenic town, with vertinigous houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta colours. No less colourful are its steep streets and steps lined with wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and fashionable boutiques John Steinbeck visited in 1953 and wrote in an article for Harper’s Bazaar: 'Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone'.

There certainly is something special about the place and this is reflected, predictably, in the prices, which tend to be higher here than elsewhere on the coast.

Second stop will be Amalfi ( acrossing Praiano which is probably one of the Slower Towns of the world ) is in a very impressive location, below Monte Cerreto that rises steeply behind the town and on the beautiful Amalfi Coast. It is the largest of the towns on this part of coast, and has several attractions to admire over and above the general setting. Start exploring with a stroll along the attractive streets, lined with white washed houses that often contain restaurants and boutiques. he main square in Amalfi and the centre for a visit is the square with the cathedral, Piazza Duomo (not a surprising choice of name since duomo is Italian for cathedral.

The 11th century Saint Andrew's Cathedral is a very striking building at the top of a flight of steps that lead up from the square, with the facade almost entirely in a very distinctive striped style - although this particular version is actually a 19th century reconstruction of the original absolutely unique.

The Amalfi Coast

After you will start climbing to Ravello, a refined, polished town almost entirely dedicated to tourism (and increasingly popular as a wedding venue). Boasting impeccable bohemian credentials – Wagner, DH Lawrence and Virginia Woolf all spent time here – it’s today known for its ravishing gardens and stupendous views, the best in the world according to former resident Gore Vidal, and certainly the best on the coast.

Once in the square To the south of Ravello’s cathedral, a 14th-century tower marks the entrance to this villa, famed for its beautiful cascading gardens. Created by a Scotsman, Scott Neville Reid, in 1853, they are truly magnificent, commanding divine panoramic views packed with exotic colours, artistically crumbling towers and luxurious blooms. Note that the gardens are at their best from May till October; they don't merit the entrance fee outside those times.

The Amalfi Coast

The villa was built in the 13th century for the wealthy Rufolo dynasty and was home to several popes as well as king Robert of Anjou. Wagner was so inspired by the gardens when he visited in 1880 that he modelled the garden of Klingsor (the setting for the second act of the opera Parsifal) on them. Today the gardens are used to stage concerts during the town’s classical-music festival. Some 600m south of Piazza Duomo, the Villa Cimbrone is worth a wander, if not for the 11th-century villa itself (now an upmarket hotel), then for the fabulous views from the delightful gardens. They’re best admired from the Belvedere of Infinity, an awe-inspiring terrace lined with classical-style statues and busts.

The villa was something of a bohemian retreat in its early days and was frequented by Greta Garbo and her lover Leopold Stokowski as a secret hideaway. Other illustrious former guests included Virginia Woolf, Winston Churchill, DH Lawrence and Salvador Dalì.

Return to your cruise will be through a hill road wich is considered the wooden Reserve of the Amalfi Coast and Campania Region, very green.

The Amalfi Coast

An unashamed resort, Sorrento is nonetheless a civilised and beautiful town. Even the souvenirs are a cut above the norm, with plenty of fine old shops selling the ceramics, lacework and intarsio (marquetry items) that are famously produced here. The main drawback is the lack of a proper beach: the town straddles the cliffs overlooking the water to Naples and Mt Vesuvius.

Sorrento makes a good base for exploring the region's highlights: to the south is the best of the peninsula’s unspoilt countryside, to the east is the Amalfi Coast, to the north lie Pompeii and other archaeological sites, and offshore is the fabled island of Capri.

Private Tour in Ravello

Italiano Limousine English Speaking Driver will meet you at your Hotel/Villa to start a wonderful personalized experience, you’ve already visited the Amalfi Coast you might just take this relax short tour to be enchanted through his beautiful gardens.

While it is a very popular small town in it's own right, a day tour to Ravello is a great way of seeing a local piece of rural Italy along with some exquisite countryside in Italy and a typical small town dramatically situated on a cliff side.

Ravello Tour Private Driver

It is often referred to as the most charming town whens tourists visit the Amalfi coast and with good reason. Ravello feels a little more cut off from the rest of the world and this is in no small way due to the precarious nature at which is lies so high up.

It makes for dramatic scenery but the town is small, ideal for walking and although the paths which lead down to the coast are very steep, they make a nice hike for those who have the energy. Ravello is quiet, the streets have many nice little restaurants and dainty shops while the main square becomes a frantic mix of school children and resting locals in the afternoon.

If you are taking any private tours in Italy and want to see somewhere a little less busy with tourists, Ravello is a nice option and the fact that you don't need to travel so far means a lot more time to explore the actual destination. The drive is scenic on the way up but many will not fancy having to do the driving themselves and if you would prefer to avoid the inconvenience of taking the local buses, a private driver is likely to be the best way to visit Ravello.

What to see in Ravello: Villa Rufolo, Villa Cimbrone and the Cathedral.

Italiano Limousine English Speaking Driver will meet you at the CAPRI FERRY TERMINAL and start a wonderful personalized experience.

Whether you are docking in either Naples or Sorrento, a shore excursion to Capri is a major highlight for many people visiting Italy. Tickets for the high speed ferry are easily organized and getting over to the island is never an issue, but you must be aware that a day trip to Capri is a very popular shore excursion, so it's best to book in advance.

The first thing about Capri which you are likely to notice, is the color. The island is obviously surrounded by beautiful sky blue waters but the land is also as striking, with lush green countryside and flowers in full bloom. Sweet fresh tomatoes are only the beginning of the delicious food on offer, with the seafood being a particularly big favorite with tourists and locals alike.

You can visit beaches on Capri, but to always in walking distance and there is a lot to see around the island making it necessary for transport to get around. You could take the bus, but it would mean waiting in line and if you really want to experience the true experience of local living then taking a tour with a private driver in Capri is always the best option, especially by Cabrio car; what better than to take a luxury tour on an unforgettable island.

As if any of this was not enough, you must visit the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) which is a sea cave just off the coast and waiting to be explored. The only means of entering the cave is at low tide and by lying down in a small four person boat, sound exciting? Just like the island of Capri, it truly is.

A private guided tour can be organized (2 hrs)

Herculaneum

Herculaneum was a very powerful Roman town when the volcanoes Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79Ad and it was overcome by flowing mud and lava. There may be comparisons to Pompeii at this point but actually, in many ways this small coastal town can be even more interesting.

The town was buried beneath the mud until the 18th Century when King Charles decided it was time to excavate the area to see what lay beneath. Remarkably the mud helped preserve the foundations of most of the buildings and so today, unlike Pompeii, it is possible to take tours of this ancient city and get a good idea what it was like way back then.

Many original parts of the buildings are still intact that you would not expect to see in structures which are thousands of years old and a private guide is easily able to help you uncover all the points of interest from the furniture inside the buildings, to the mosaic floors beneath them. Herculaneum

It's simply fascinating to walk through these streets while your private tour guide illustrates what may have taken place as you go. The thermal baths, the forum, the gymnasium and many residential houses; it would almost be impossible to believe any of it is real, only for the fact that you are now seeing it with your very eyes. Herculaneum is is arguably the best preserved Roman town you can see on tours in Italy and a uniquely interesting journey for anyone visiting Naples or anywhere nearby.

Another place which you do not want to miss in Naples is the Duomo, which is an ancient Cathedral erected in memory of the Saint of Naples. The Feast of Genarro is also held here each year on 19th September in which the vials of the patron Saint’s blood are taken out to see if the blood liquefies.
